Monday's Must Have- DIY Headbands

It's terribly humid and hot the first month of school.  There's no reason to over-style your hair when its so sticky and sweaty from August to September.  The solution?  Dry shampoo, messy up-dos, braids, and pony tails accessorized with headbands (see this link for some great ideas).  Here are some Pinterest inspired headbands for your first week of school hair looks.  Thanks Ms. Hunter for taking the time to model for me!

Whimsical-  sew buttons on an elastic hairband.  Super cute!

Girly and romantic-  make a bow and attach it to an elastic hairband.  If you aren't feeling crafty, you can always find cute hair bows in the hair brush aisle at Walmart or CVS.

Thank you Mrs. Dapcic for inspiring this idea!

Bold and fun-  brightly colored flowers are a great way to add interest to any hairdo!  I got these flowers in the Target girls department.  So pretty!

Here are some great dry shampoos to consider...

Dove® Refresh Care™ Invigorating Dry Shampoo

Suave Dry Shampoo-  Mrs. Perez's  daughter's favorite!

Hoping you'll keep cool during the first week of school!

Teacher Goodies

Here are some free printables available on-line to keep you organized throughout the year.  Some will be great additions to your teacher lesson plan binder too.  Hopefully your color ink isn't low yet!

...  I know I mentioned these calendars before, but they are SO stinkin' cute I'm mentioning them again!

Pinterest inspired owl

This is the sweetest little bookmark I found on Pinterest BUT without a tutorial.  Today I decided to give it a try.

Materials-  Assorted colors of felt, stiff white felt for backing, ribbon, coordinating thread, craft glue and black puffy paint.

Step 1:  I made my own pattern out of cardboard and traced it onto the stiff white felt (I'm sure there is a specific name for this felt-  please tell me if you know!).  It might be easier to find a cute owl template to trace.  Google it!

Step 2:  Layer a piece of colored felt and cut around the backing.  It sticks a bit, so its an easy cutting job.

Step 3:  Layer and cut a smaller piece for the bottom of your owl.

 Step 4:  Sew, sew, sew.

I sewed the ribbon in between the two layers of felt so there would be a nice smooth line.

Step 5:  Cut out the heart beak and eyes.  The eyes were the hardest part!  I should have made a pattern to trace AND made the eyes bigger, but it works.  The heart is super easy if you cut it from one of the corners of the felt.  Use craft glue to make a sweet owl face.

Step 6:  Use puffy paint to finish the eyes.  Black felt would look nice too, but I had NO luck cutting out circles today!  It looks like there is a circle to finish the top of the ribbon too!  I'll think about adding that later :)

Hmmmm....  I wonder "Whooooo" I'll surprise with a bookmark on our first day back to school...

Mod Podge Magic

What's up with all the wrinkles and bubbling?  I get so frustrated using Mod Podge, but love to decoupage.  I bought this tool today at Michaels, and the paper seemed to lay flatter.

I can't wait to use it on other paper projects.  Here is a tutorial and some fun ideas from Pinterest to try in your classroom using scrapbook paper or fabric and Mod Podge.
